In the thirty years that I’ve been working in academic publishing I’ve been inspired by the concept of leadership. The starting point was reading John Kotter's Force for Change: How Leadership Differs from Management which brilliantly articulated the difference between managers and leaders. At that time, I was manager aspiring to be a leader. That book was a catalyst for my passion and pursuit of learning about the styles, characteristics and fundamental practices that create compelling leaders.
Working in academic publishing means working in the library. Like all of society, the library is changing at a rapid pace and dedicated librarians are leading the way for the next generation in their academic and professional pursuits. As I began this great adventure of launching my own publishing company, it occurred to me that these paths should cross. Leadership and the library, this is the foundation of Mission Bell Media.
Leadership is a far-reaching and extraordinary concept. Libraries are a magical starting point for far-reaching and extraordinary journeys. With this as our starting point, the vision for Mission Bell Media became both simple and expansive: publish print and digital media for librarians and their community. Create reference content focused on the best of leadership across all disciplines, content that librarians would be excited to share with their patrons.
We want to listen and connect with librarians, then respond with leadership driven content specifically for them, to encourage, educate and inspire them as they lead, encourage, educate and inspire. A single driven focus on leadership may seem narrow to some, but for Mission Bell Media it’s the portal to far-reaching and extraordinary content, which is the heartbeat of every library.
We are thrilled to have our first titles launch in Spring of 2015 and right now, to start the conversation on what leadership, leadership in the library and the greater world means...currently and in the years to come. Here on the blog we will feature leading voices in the library and leadership market, weighing-in on timely topics and challenges. We also want to hear and learn from you.
Thank you for joining us on the adventure,
